Flexibility explained
What does this assessment measure?
Flexibility is specific to the joint, movement and technique being tested. That is why this page shows three separate measurements instead of combining everything into one score.
Sit-and-reach
Sit with your legs extended and reach forward using the same box, ruler or reference point each time. Record how far your fingertips travel beyond the toes. If you cannot reach your toes, enter the distance as a negative number.
Shoulder reach
Reach one hand overhead and the other hand behind your back. Measure the overlap between your fingers, or the gap if they do not meet. Use the same arm position every time.
Knee-to-wall ankle mobility
Face a wall and move one foot backward until the front knee can touch the wall while the heel remains down. Record the toe-to-wall distance and repeat with the same leg during future assessments.
